Kindle special offers (KSO) are specialized advertising placements on the Fire device wake screen. This creative on the tablet utilized the Star Wars Commander mobile game to promote the sign up of the Amazon FreeTime app for kids. The challenge was to design an effective ad that would be successful within the constraints of the UI safe zones for multiple generations of tablets, work within the rotating portrait and landscape orientations, be within the contrast accessibility range, all while keeping the theme and feel of the brand. The goal was to drive customers to the sign-up page for the app leading to possible conversion.

Users also get to this KSO from the ‘View Special Offers’ (VSO) screen where they re-engage with products and brands that they’ve seen on their Fire tablet wake screen.

The creative was successful and performed with a high click-through-rate of 2% versus the average 1.22% for US ads.
